The Katie Project
The Katie Project was a second year group project called “Interactive Objects for Children”. The project prompted us to create an object that would grow with a kid. For the project we chose a lounger sibling of a past co-worker. Her name was Katie and she was 9 at the time. We designed this for her so that she could draw, read, and play on a laptop on top. If she chose to, she could also take the blocks from underneath and play with them. The lap-table also had a hook for a pencil case, and a side compartment for art supplies. The table and rock set was made with maple, acrylic, plywood, and a mineral oil finish. The pencil case on the side was created with recycled materials.
